Trinity Sweeps NESCACs; St. Lawrence Tops Rochester to Win Liberty League

With the College Squash national championships on the horizon, this weekend’s college action included NESCAC and Liberty conference championships as well as ivy league matches with significant ranking ramifications as the regular season winds down.

Trinity hosted the men’s and women’s teams from all eleven programs in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. The Bantam men and women made it ten consecutive NESCAC titles in the tournament’s ten-year history. The Trinity women defeated Colby in the quarterfinals 8-1, and sealed their place in the final with a 7-2 semifinal victory over Amherst. The Bantam women clinched a tenth title with a 9-0 sweep over Williams.

The Bantam men continued their NESCAC dominance by reaching the final with victories over Amherst and Williams. Bates caused the reigning champions some trouble in the final, taking two matches off of the hosts, but Trinity pulled through with seven victories to claim a tenth conference title.

St. Lawrence hosted the men’s Liberty League Championship, which was held in a round robin format. Of the five programs, the No. 6 St. Lawrence men and No. 3 Rochester men both emerged at the top for a decisive match. St. Lawrence upset the Yellowjackets 5-4 to claim a third consecutive Liberty League title.

In the Ivy League, the No. 7 Harvard men defeated the No. 8 Columbia men 5-4, and the No. 1 Crimson women shut out Columbia 9-0. Penn hosted both the Yale men and women on Sunday. The No. 4 Yale men upset No. 2 Penn 6-3, while the Penn women shut out Yale 9-0. Columbia hosted Dartmouth on Sunday with the men upsetting No. 5 Dartmouth 5-4, and the Columbia women defeating Dartmouth 8-1.
